On October 22, 2011, the Chazen Museum of Art will inaugurate the new galleries in its new 86,000-square-foot building with three important exhibitions featuring the oil paintings and watercolors of abstract artist Sean Scully, late-twentieth-century American and European abstract paintings from the Simona and Jerome A. Chazen Collection, and a selection of twentieth-century prints from the Leslie and Johanna Garfield Collection.

New Building by Machado & Silvetti to Open in October 2011

In October 2011, the museum will open the doors to a new 86,000-square-foot building designed by Machado and Silvetti Associates. The $43 million addition will add 22,500 square feet of new gallery space—more than doubling the current exhibition space, increasing access to the museum's collections, and providing more space for programs serving the campus and the community.

Drawn from the Chazen's collection, 'The Loaded Image: Printmaking as Persuasion' showcases prints from the sixteenth century to the present as an exploration of the messages and persuasive tactics of this popular art form.

Chazen Museum of Art Presents Exhibition of Russian Icons

The icon is a distinctive form of holy image in Eastern Orthodox cultures, designed to evoke sacred presence by appealing to the senses. Focusing on about thirty examples from the museum's permanent collection, this exhibition will explore the distinctive devotional functions, religious experiences, iconography and changing styles of Russian icons from the sixteenth to early twentieth centuries.

UW Horn Choir to Perform Annual Holiday Concert

The UW Horn Choir will perform its popular annual holiday concert at the Chazen Museum of Art on December 4, 2010, at 1 p.m. Audiences of all ages enjoy this festive event. Professor Douglas Hill has directed the horn choir since 1974, and this is his final concert as he will retire from full-time teaching in 2011.
