The Chazen relies on the many talents of great volunteers to help with its operations and programs. Opportunities include assisting with events and community outreach, education, curatorial, visitor services, and administration. Please read about some of the opportunities and fill out our online volunteer interest form. Be sure to list any relevant skills or interests you have.
Sunday Afternoon Live from the Chazen assistants attend Sunday classical music concerts broadcast by Wisconsin Public Radio. Concerts run from September through mid-May. Assistants help with set-up, ushering, and refreshments, and can attend all or part of the concert between their volunteer functions. No previous experience is necessary. Volunteers should be willing to interact with the public and have a friendly and professional presence to represent the museum.
Special event ambassadors assist at special events such as exhibition openings and special concerts. Tasks include event set up and break down, greeting and counting visitors, answering questions and promoting museum programs and membership. Volunteers should have good communication skills, an interest in working with the public, and a friendly, outgoing demeanor.
Curatorial Project Support
The volunteer curatorial assistant will provide assistance on projects related to the permanent collection and exhibitions. A background in art history is required and knowledge of one or more foreign languages is desirable.
There are occasional opportunities for volunteers to assist with administrative projects, membership activities in support of fundraising and community relations, and surveying visitors and members. Individuals with skills in translating foreign languages and other research areas may be able to work on short-term projects at the museum.
