Group Tours

In an effort to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and lessen the risk to the community, group tour bookings are canceled until further notice.

Trained docents guide organized groups through Chazen Museum of Art exhibitions. The Whistlestop Tour of the permanent collections is generally offered to adult groups. However, other approaches to the displays can be discussed with the curator of education; specialized topics depend on the availability of the collections and appropriate docents. A group may also choose to tour one of the museum’s temporary exhibitions. (See exhibitions for current offerings.)

Tours can be scheduled Tuesday through Friday 9:15 am to 4:45 pm or Saturday and Sunday 11:15 am to 4:45 pm. Most tours last one hour and 15 minutes. Appointments must be made at least four weeks in advance. Up to 60 people can be accommodated at one time, although large groups will be divided into smaller parties (of no more than 12 people), each with an individual docent. Guided tours are free of charge for nonprofit organizations; a donation to the museum's department of education of $25 per docent is suggested for others.

Foreign-language Tours: The Whistlestop Tour of the permanent collection and special tours of temporary exhibitions are available in French, German, or Spanish. Guided tours in other languages may be possible. In the past, tours have been provided in Chinese, Russian, Polish, Urdu, and Yoruba. Tours of temporary exhibitions are most often given in the language of the artist’s (or artists’) culture.

Up to 24 people can be accommodated for foreign-language tours, however large groups will be divided into parties (of no more than 12), with an individual docent.

All foreign-language tours depend on the availability of docents with the necessary language skills. In the Whistlestop Tour, the docent will select examples by artists of the appropriate nationality for discussion whenever possible.

To schedule a tour, click here or contact the curator of education. If an individual in the group has special needs, this should be indicated when making the tour reservation.
