Dan Ramirez: Brush Music – Lecture by Buzz Spector

Join us as internationally recognized artist and critical writer, Buzz Spector presents Dan Ramirez: Brush Music. Spector will discuss Dan Ramirez’s long-term interest in music as an expressive parallel to his studio practice, focusing on the compositions of Olivier Messiaen.

Buzz Spector is an artist, writer, and Professor of Art in the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. Spector is an internationally known artist whose work makes frequent use of the book, both as subject and object, and is concerned with relationships between public history, individual memory, and perception. Buzzwords, a volume of selected interviews of Spector, was published in 2012 by Sara Ranchouse, Chicago. Spector has also written essays for many exhibition catalogs and anthologies. He was a classmate of Dan Ramirez in the University of Chicago MFA program in the mid 1970s.

Held in conjunction with Certainty and Doubt: Paintings by Dan Ramirez on view in the Pleasant T. Rowland Galleries through January 7, 2018. Room L160, Conrad A. Elvehjem building
