The Glassy Surface of a Lake card

Artist: Xu Bing

Year: 2004

Xu Bing created this site-specific installation especially for the Chazen Museum of Art's Paige Court. His most ambitious installation to date, The Glassy Surface of a Lake presents a 1000-word text from Thoreau's Walden written in nine-inch aluminum letters in a font designed by the artist. In the center, a portion of the text breaks free and cascades to the floor below into a pile of illegible random letters.

Packet of 10 cards and envelopes.
